Summary: Learn how to create programs, configure program hierarchy, duration, budget, and access control, use Program Kanban, and create program-bound or independent projects in Sanplex.

A Program is a collection of related projects managed in a coordinated way. As a higher-level management structure in Sanplex, a program helps managers organize projects, establish hierarchical relationships, and maintain visibility across related work.

Sanplex supports multi-level program structures. Programs can contain sub-programs and projects, and access can be controlled according to the configuration of each program.

In the Program module, use Project View to view programs and independent projects by status. You can also create programs and projects directly from this page.

Program > Project View page showing program and project status filters, the program list, and the Create Project and Create Program buttons.

I. Create a Program

Click Create Program in the upper-right corner of Project View.

On the Create Program page, enter the program information and configure its management settings.

Create Program page showing fields for Parent Program, Name, Planned Duration, Charter, Manager, Budget, Description, and Access Control.

Notes:

  • Hierarchy: Select an existing program in Parent Program to create a sub-program, or keep the root level to create a top-level program.
  • Planned Duration: Specify the planned start and end dates, or select Long-Term for a long-term program.
  • Budget: Enter the program budget or select TBD when the budget has not yet been determined.
  • Access Control: Select Public or Private. Public programs are accessible to users with Program view permissions, while private programs are accessible to the program leader and stakeholders.
  • Charter and Manager: You can associate a charter with the program and assign a program manager as needed.

Sanplex also provides Program Kanban for monitoring program-related work visually. The Kanban view organizes information such as plans, waiting and ongoing projects, ongoing executions, and releases across programs.

Program Kanban page showing programs organized across Unexpired Plans, Waiting Projects, Ongoing Projects, Ongoing Executions, and Normal Releases.

After completing the program information, click Save.

The program is displayed in Project View. The Actions column provides the available lifecycle and management actions for each program. Depending on the program status, you can perform actions such as starting or suspending the program, editing it, managing its hierarchy, or deleting it.

Program > Project View page showing program rows with lifecycle and management actions in the Actions column.

II. Create a Project

You can also create a project directly from the Program module.

Click Create Project in the upper-right corner of Project View. Sanplex opens the Select management type dialog.

Under New Project, select the project management model that matches your work. Available options shown include:

  • Scrum
  • Waterfall
  • Kanban
  • Agile +
  • Waterfall +

You can also use the Template tab to create a project from a project template.

Select management type dialog opened from Create Project, showing New Project and Template tabs and the Scrum, Waterfall, Kanban, Agile +, and Waterfall + project management models.

After selecting a management type, complete the project information on the Create Project page.

Use Parent Program to associate the project with an existing program. Keeping the root selection allows the project to be created as an independent project.

Depending on the selected project type, the page provides settings such as Project Workflow, Charter, Budget, Manager, Planned Duration, Link Products, Link Plan, and Description.

Create Project page for a Waterfall project showing Parent Program, Project Workflow, Charter, Budget, Manager, Planned Duration, linked products and plans, and Description.

After completing the project information, click Save.

Independent projects are displayed separately from program-bound projects in Program > Project View.

Program > Project View page showing Project Test as an independent project together with another independent project.

Projects created under programs and independent projects can also be viewed and managed in the Project module.

Project > Project List page showing Project Test in the project list with its status, manager, story points, and available actions.
